Based on Vahan registration data (as of 2 October 2026), as compiled by Finology Ticker. Summarised in our own words.
About 3.34 lakh electric vehicles were registered in India in September 2026, according to Vahan, the government's vehicle registration database. That is roughly 10% more than the 3,02,746 registered in August. The figure was taken from a snapshot on 2 October and can rise slightly as late registrations are added.

The share of EVs is growing
Electric two-wheelers made up about 11.6% of all two-wheeler registrations in September 2026, compared with 8.2% a year earlier. Electric cars were about 8.5% of car registrations, compared with about 6%.
What this means for workers
- Every EV on the road needs trained service technicians, battery and charging specialists and spare parts staff.
- Delivery and passenger three-wheelers in electric form are growing, which means more fleet maintenance work.
- Mechanics who learn basic EV safety and battery handling now will have a head start.
The page did not give an overall year-on-year growth figure for all EVs, so we do not quote one.
