The July 2026 PLFS gives a clear gap: urban unemployment was 6.7% against 4.5% in rural areas. For urban women it was 8.8%.

Why might this be

The survey counts someone as employed even if they do small farm or family work, which is common in villages. In cities, more people want regular wage jobs and are actively looking. So a higher urban rate partly reflects job-seeking, not only a lack of work. The release itself does not explain the gap, so this is a general reading, not a finding.
