October registrations: trucks up 34%, but cars and bikes lag on late festive timing

Based on a Jefferies note reported by ANI on 29 October 2026. These are broker estimates, not company-reported sales. Summarised in our own words.
+34%truck registrations, first 27 days
-20-25%cars and two-wheelers, first 27 days
+16%two-wheelers, first 14 festive days
-6%cars, first 14 festive days
Brokerage Jefferies said registrations of new trucks rose 34% in the first 27 days of October 2026 compared with a year earlier, while tractors rose 3%. Passenger vehicles and two-wheelers were down 20 to 25% over the same period.
Why the gap
- Jefferies blames the later timing of the festive season in 2026 and a high base of comparison.
- Over the first 14 festive days, two-wheeler registrations were up 16% and passenger vehicles were down 6%.
- It says the slowdown may partly reflect festive dates and not a broad weakening of the market.

What Jefferies expects for October wholesale
- Up 17 to 19%: Ashok Leyland, TVS Motor and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles.
- Up 11 to 12%: Hyundai and Bajaj Auto.
- Up 6 to 9%: Maruti Suzuki, Eicher Motors and Hero MotoCorp.
- Down about 3%: Mahindra and Mahindra, with tractor volumes expected to fall 12%.
Companies publish their actual October sales around the start of November. Those numbers may differ from these estimates.
What this means for you
- Strong truck registrations point to goods moving, which supports driver and logistics jobs.
- Showroom and sales jobs depend on when the festive buying lands, so a late Diwali can push the hiring and sales peak into November.
