The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) counts vehicles that dealers actually register to customers. This is called retail. For September 2026 it reports 4,27,213 passenger vehicles, which is 32.10% more than September 2025 and 6.17% more than the 4,02,398 sold in August.

Cities and villages both grew

Urban retail rose 32.11% over last year and rural retail rose 32.09%. Between April and September 2026, dealers sold 25,44,187 passenger vehicles, up 24.48% from 20,43,813 in the same months last year.

Read the big number with care

FADA itself says the 32% figure needs to be read against a distorted base. Many buyers delayed their purchase in September 2025 while waiting for the GST 2.0 tax cuts, so last year's number was low. That makes this year's growth look larger than normal demand.

What it can mean for jobs

More registrations usually mean more work for showroom sales staff, finance and insurance executives, delivery and PDI (pre-delivery inspection) technicians. This is a likely effect, not something the source states.
