Gross, net, domestic and import figures measure different things, so they should not be compared with one another.
What this means for you
- Higher GST collection shows more buying and selling across the economy. Shops, delivery firms and warehouses benefit when trade is busy.
- Strong import revenue points to more goods moving through ports and onto trucks.
- GST data is a measure of activity, not a count of jobs. Hiring numbers come from separate reports.
